Privacy Policy

Rentaissance NYC (“we,” “us”) is a sole proprietorship in New York, New York. This policy explains what we collect when you visit rentaissancenyc.com, sign up for the free guide, buy an Apartment Plan or Plan + AI Chat, or use our AI chat, and what we do with it. [LAWYER REVIEW]

What we collect

Email signups. When you ask for the free guide or checklist, we collect your email address through Kit, our email provider.
Purchases. Gumroad runs our checkout. It collects your payment details, and we never see your full card number. We receive your name, email address, what you bought, the price, the date, and, for Plan + AI Chat, the license key on your receipt. [LAWYER REVIEW: confirm exactly what Gumroad shares with sellers.]
Apartment Plan intake. When you fill out the intake, we collect your answers: your name, email, order number, income or target rent, savings for move-in, guarantor plans, move-in date, where you work or study, your commute, what you need in an apartment, and anything else you choose to tell us.
AI chat. To open the chat, you enter the license key from your receipt, and we check it with Gumroad. After that, a cookie keeps you signed in (see Cookies below), and we count your messages each day so we can apply the daily limit. The count is tied to a scrambled (hashed) version of your key, never your name or email. Each message you send, with the earlier messages in that chat, goes to Anthropic so Claude can answer it. We don’t store your chats on our servers. The conversation stays in your browser tab until you close the tab, start a new chat, or sign out.
What we never ask for. We never ask about your race, national origin, citizenship, religion, age, family status, disability, or other traits the NYC Human Rights Law protects. We don’t need ID, bank, or Social Security numbers, or copies of your documents, so please don’t send them or type them into the chat.
Messages. When you email us, we keep your message and our reply.
Website analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to see how people use the site: pages visited, approximate location based on IP address, device and browser, how you found us, and actions such as signing up, submitting the intake, opening the chat, or clicking a buy button. It never sees what you type in the chat. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies. [LAWYER REVIEW: confirm the cookie and consent approach, especially for visitors outside the US.]

How we use it

To deliver the guide, your plan, and your AI chat.
To build your plan. Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, drafts it from your intake answers, and a person reviews it before we send it.
To answer your chat messages. Claude answers them from our sourced research. No person at Rentaissance NYC reads your chats.
To send the emails you signed up for: a few short tips over the first week, then about one email a week. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
To answer your questions and handle refunds.
To learn which pages and topics help people, so we can improve the site, the guide, and the plans.
To keep the records we need for taxes and accounting.

What we don’t do

We don’t sell your personal information.
We don’t share your answers, your chats, or your email address with landlords, brokers, or listing sites.
We don’t sell apartment listings. Your plan links to public searches on third-party sites.

We share information only with the services that help us run the business, and only so they can do that work:

Kit: email list and guide delivery
Gumroad: checkout, receipts, sales tax, and license keys
[INTAKE FORM TOOL]: receiving intake answers
Anthropic: drafting plans and answering chat messages with Claude. Under its commercial terms, Anthropic doesn’t train its models on this data, and it deletes it within 30 days, with limited exceptions such as messages flagged for breaking its usage policy (Anthropic). Google: Analytics 4 and Search Console
Cloudflare: website hosting, security, and the chat server, which keeps the daily message counts

We may also share information when the law requires it, or to protect our rights or someone’s safety. [LAWYER REVIEW]

Cookies

Chat sign-in (rnyc_chat): set only when you open the AI chat. It’s needed for the chat to work, holds no name or email, and expires within 7 days, when your access ends, or when you sign out.
Analytics: Google Analytics cookies, described above, only when analytics is on.

Your choices

Emails: unsubscribe anytime with the link in any email, or by emailing us.
Analytics: block cookies in your browser settings, or install Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on.
Chat: choose New chat to clear the conversation from your browser, or Sign out to remove the chat cookie too.
Your information: email [email protected] to ask what we hold about you, or to correct or delete it. We’ll reply within [RESPONSE TIME]. We may need to keep some records, such as orders, for tax purposes. [LAWYER REVIEW]

How long we keep it

Email list: until you unsubscribe. We keep a record of the unsubscribe so we don’t email you again.
Order records: for as long as tax and accounting rules require. [LAWYER REVIEW: confirm the period.]

AI chat: we don’t keep your messages. Daily message counts delete themselves after 2 days.

Security

We use established providers, turn on two-factor login for every account, and limit who can see customer information. The chat’s keys and secrets live only in Cloudflare’s encrypted settings. No system is completely secure, so we can’t promise that information will never be exposed. [LAWYER REVIEW]

Children

This site is for adults looking for apartments. It isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. [LAWYER REVIEW]

Visitors outside the United States

We’re based in New York, and our providers may process information in the United States and other countries. [LAWYER REVIEW: if you market to students or renters in the EU or UK, review the rules that apply.]

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we’ll also tell subscribers by email.
